    A Builders' Exchange is a construction industry "clearing house" for contractors and industry professionals as well as consumers who may be looking to hire a contractor to assist with a home building or remodeling project.

    Why should I join a Builders' Exchange?

    The following is a brief summary of the services we provide to our members and to consumers. For a detailed description of the services listed, click the Member Services link:

    • Physical and electronic Planroom services for project review and bid workup.
    • Construction Industry forms and books for sale to help contractors meet the legal requirements of doing business.
    • Group Insurance program(s) with significant savings on medical, dental, life and disability policies.
    • Group Workers' Compensation Program with State Compensation Insurance Fund offering a 6% premium discount. Designed to lower contractors net cost of workers' comp insurance through association with other Exchanges to achieve the benefit of size with over $516 million in premiums.
    • Plan copying service overnight or "while-u-wait".
    • Legislative Monitoring through the Golden State Builders' Exchanges.

    Why should I use your referral service?

    If you need a contractor to help with a residential or commercial construction project, you can be assured that the contractors referred by a Builders' Exchange are licensed and insured as required by law. ALL members of our association MUST be licensed by the California Contractors' State License Board as required by law, in order to join our association. And we verify this information not only upon receipt of an Application for Membership from a contractor, but we also check the license information that we have on file for members at least twice per year to assure that our members that we refer are still licensed and in good standing.

    What does it cost to advertise my project?

    NOTHING!  There is never a fee for you to advertise your project. Our association is supported by the dues paid by our members and they benefit by having the opportunity to bid on the jobs.

    How do I submit my project?

    Now it's easier than ever to submit project documents to the Humboldt Builders' Exchange!

    • Just submit the paper or electronic documents to the Planroom Coordinator and provide the pertinent information and we will advertise your job based on the information you provide. If the project is located in Humboldt or Del Norte County, we can scan and upload the documents to Humboldt Online Planroom Service and the other Exchanges throughout the State of California can share those documents electronically. That means you only need supply one set of plans and specs and once the documents are online, then any other exchange in the state can get access to those documents. This includes any addenda issued during the bid process!
